7 marathons. 7 continents. 7 years.

So I’m driving home from work, consumed as usual with pressing matters and the fact that the car says it’s 109f outside and traffic is brutal. I see a motorcylcle in my rearview mirror while I am listening to – and singing along – to – The Fray, with the top down and aircon on. This guy pulls alongside me and motions to me. So I turn down the music and he says, “Did you really run marathons on the seven continents?” (He had read my license plates obviously). I say “oh yes, and if you see my front plates, I’m in the process of climbing the seven summits also”. He says “way to go man!”. I give him a smile and a thumbs-up and I temporarily forget the worries of the day. Big smile afterwards.
Through a flurry of meetings and deadlines, I got a new personal printer installed in my office. My old one would clank along and would start on its own and take forever to print and never in any colors. It was a small victory but it mattered. Yay.
And then, I get home to my sweltering flat where it says 95f on the thermostat (inside – no aircon). I throw off my clothes, put on my suit and Tevas, walk to the lake and throw myself in with the hundreds along the shore and just soak up the sun, water, wetness and reflections on the min-waves. Peace and reflection.
I tell you, it’s the little victories in life that matter and they all count. Enjoy the moment, enjoy the day, and the smiles from the words of strangers that come out of nowhere!
