Orgasmic run in Tiburon

Today we had the first day of our semi-annual offsite extended management team meeting (SAOEMTM :-) ) in Tiburon.  It was a very good day and the weather is absolutely perfect – even though we’re stuck inside all day.

These are not my pictures, but its a good idea of what the views are like.  Overlooking Angel Island, the City of San Francisco, bobbing boats, water, sun, – just beautiful.

We ended about 545pm today and had just enough time to get a run in before dinner later.  Quickly got dressed (or undressed as the case might be), got the (new) iPod and GPS watch ready and headed out the hotel door.

I had run this route before during the last offsite and I started off and the watch would not work – or synch up with the satellites.  But never mind, cause I knew the distance to Strawberry Drive was exactly 7.0 miles.  The sun was still up but getting ready to set.  Sometimes when you run, the legs are so easy and the stride is so right and music is so perfect, and the weather is so nice and your body moves effortlessly along the trail that it seems almost weightless.

I had (have) a lot of things on my mind that need to be worked out – and this run was a perfect place for that.  It was so incredibly beautiful out that it made my eyes almost hurt.  Can you picture the sun setting over the San Francisco Bay as you are running alongside with the Golden Gate in the background, the City just starting to turn on their lights?   How about pinks and oranges and reds lighting up the water and the sky and a mixture of warmth and coolness hanging in the air at the same time?

It was so nice that I took my shirt off the last half of the run and just felt the wind come off of my chest as I ran peacefully back to the hotel on the water.  I ran past other runners as the light was fading quickly from the sky and darkness was coming.  By the last 15 minutes of the run, it was pretty dark and other runners had headlights on – but I continued onwards just flying along, listening to the Counting Crows and Dire Straights at the end.

As I write this, I am sitting on the balcony of my room overlooking the city including the Pyramid, and just a magical clear night in the most beautiful (sometimes) city in the world.

About as orgasmic experience one can have without stains :-) … but as in the other definition of the word, not quite the same without someone special to share it with …
